Julia has been the Director of Gateway Services since January 2018. Prior to this Julia has worked in a variety of senior strategic and operational roles across housing and adult social care in local government and, prior to this, held roles in the Homes and Communities Agency and the Housing Corporation. Julia leads the strategic direction and operational management of Gateway Services helping to promote the independence and resilience of Croydon residents. Over the last two years she has led the development of new initiatives to prevent vulnerable residents, including those impacted by welfare reform experiencing escalating crisis, thus deterring the need for statutory services. The service has developed strong early intervention and prevention approaches including targeted locality approaches utilising community assets. Working alongside community partners through initiatives such as Community Connect and Food Stop has provided residents in need a helping hand to stabilise and gain the opportunity to thrive.. Julia has led the development of the rough sleeping strategy for Croydon and created innovative partnerships including one with Crystal Palace Football Club in 2018/19, developing a severe weather shelter in a lounge of the club, managed by volunteers and staff. She works in partnership with the local VCS and faith sector to deliver positive outcomes for residents. She has led on the introduction of a Housing First service, an innovative scheme to enable EEA nationals to rise out of street homelessness, and the development of a 24 hour assessment hub. Julia is a corporate board member for the Croydon Plus Credit Union and participated as an expert advisor to government influencing the national rough sleeping strategy. Croydon’s Gateway Service won the MJ award in 2019 in the category of “delivering better outcomes”.
